General
Who can use Easy-IP?
Easy-IP is ideal for organizations that manage large numbers of networks or subnets, such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Telcos or large Enterprises, but it is equally suitable for smaller networks with a few hundred nodes.
How long will it take to install Easy-IP?
Unlike other IP address management solutions which can take many hours or days of complex configuration, Easy-IP can be installed and discovering your existing IP network in less than 10 minutes.
How scalable is Easy-IP?
The Easy-IP centralized SQL database has 64-bit I/O support for very large databases. Easy-IP can hold up to 16 million records in a single database.
Easy-IP can scale from a single-user with a few hundred nodes, right up to Global Service Providers with millions of IP addresses.
Does Easy-IP support multiple users?
Easy-IP fully supports simultaneous access by multiple users in diverse geographical locations. Easy-IP can support anywhere from 1 to 100 concurrent users.
Can I customize the database by adding my own fields?
Yes. With Easy-IP custom fields, you can track specific information such as Operating System, Circuit Number, Line Speed, Telco Supplier, OSPF Area, etc. to customize the information to your own network.
How long does it take to perform a full Network Discovery?
Testing has shown that a first time discovery conducted on a network with 1,000 devices takes less than 5 minutes. The exact length of time required to perform a discovery depends on several factors, including the scope of discovery being performed, latency, bandwidth, or response time.
Does Easy-IP keep track of OSPF areas and BGP ASNs?
OSPF and BGP information can be tracked by creating a custom field. When you add a new subnet, simply enter the OSPF area or AS number to which the subnet belongs in the custom field. The same applies to VCI/VPI, Frame Relay DLCI, VPN, NAT or any other type of interface.
What happens if my data is corrupted?
The Easy-IP online backup feature allows you to back up data while your database is still online, there's no need to shut the database down.
Can I automate Backups or Network Discovery?
With the built-in Task Scheduler, you can automate tasks such as Database Backup, Network Discovery or Reporting to run daily, weekly or monthly, at a time that suits you.
Is there an audit trail for change management?
Yes. Easy-IP keeps track of all additions, deletions, and changes to the database by each user. The changes are time stamped to ensure a full audit trail, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements such as SOX, PCI, and HIPPA.
What network tools are provided?
A comprehensive set of powerful network diagnostic tools allows you to verify device availability, or connect directly to the device, before allocating an IP Address.
- Ping, Traceroute, Telnet
- Whois Lookup
- DNS Record Lookup
- Integrated MIB Browser
- IP Subnet Calculator
Web Interface
Is there a Web Interface for Easy-IP?
Yes - Easy-IP also offers an AJAX Web Interface that delivers the look and feel, usability and performance of a desktop application.
Does the Web interface have the same functionality as the Windows client?
Yes - All of the major functionality such as Add/Delete Subnets, Edit IP Records, Grouping & Sorting, Host Discovery, Database Searching and even Reporting are available directly from the Web Browser.
IP Address Management
Does Easy-IP support VLSM and CIDR?
Yes. Easy-IP has extensive drag & drop functionality for partitioning address space into variable length subnets (VLSM), including automatic subnet mask calculation.
Easy-IP fully supports Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR), with visual graphic indication of the CIDR prefix for every subnet.
Does Easy-IP support IPv6?
Yes. Concurrent support for both IPv4 and IPv6 future-proofs your investment and streamlines your migration to IPv6.
Can Easy-IP manage overlapping IP space?
Yes. Using separate container files, Service Providers can manage multiple instances of overlapping IP Address space for their customers.
Complex networks may be split into different groups according to network topology, countries, regions, or departmental functions.
Does Easy-IP support RFC1918?
Yes. Easy-IP handles both private (RFC1918) and public (ARIN/RIPE allocated) IP Address space.
Security
How do I authenticate user login?
Secure login access is provided by authentication with Microsoft Active Directory, as well as standard Firebird user security.
Can I restrict access to certain users?
Easy-IP provides access control lists so that administrative users can delegate responsibility for IP address management to other users, regardless of location.
Users can be assigned read-write, or read-only access to the database. Access rights can be granted based on specific subnets or IP address ranges.
Databases
What database platform does Easy-IP support?
Easy-IP is powered by Firebird SQL. Firebird is an industry-standard, low-maintenance, self-tuning SQL database engine, and requires no assistance from a dedicated database administrator.
Since the Firebird SQL server is an integral part of Easy-IP, there is no additional software to install or configure. This gives Easy-IP a significant advantage over competing products that require a separate database, such as Sybase or Oracle.
Is the database ODBC compliant?
Firebird SQL is fully ODBC compliant allowing for integration with other databases such as Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL, Access, MySQL etc.
